Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing - Gym

Pre-requites Candidates must be 16 years old or over. There are no other entry requirements; however, it is recommended that you have some experience of exercising within the Gym environment, using Free Weights and Cardiovascular Machines.
Suitable for

This course is suitable for those who wish to become a Gym Instructor in a private health club, leisure centre, or gain the first step on their career ladder towards becoming a Personal Trainer. 

Individuals who wish to change careers and seek an internationally recognised qualification.

Exercise and Fitness enthusiasts who wish to become Gym instructors.

Course content

Theory - Students will be given a Resources Pack for home study as follows:

  • Exercise and Fitness Knowledge Level 2 - Manual
  • Exercise and Fitness Knowledge Level 2 - Workbook
  • Gym Instruction Manual
The study packs cover:
  • Bones and joints
  • Muscles, muscle actions and energy systems
  • Cardio-respiratory system
  • Components of fitness and principles of training

Practical - Students will be taught all fundamental aspects of instructing safe and effective Gym based sessions to adults, including:-

  • Principles of Warm Up/ Cool Down in a Gym environment
  • Cardiovasular Machines
  • Free Weights
  • Resistance Machines
  • Session plannning
  • Correct lifting and passing techniques
  • Muscular strength and endurance principles
  • Flexibility training
  • Principle of exercise programme design
  • Communication and teaching skills
  • Screening and risk factor identification
  • Promoting physical activity for a healthier lifestyle
  • Customer Care
  • Health, Safety and Professionalism in Exercise and Fitness Instruction
Duration 2 weekends plus home study or 4 consecutive days
Additional information

This is an intensive course, and students are encouraged to dedicate time to their learning, prior to and during their studies. 

Tutors have extensive experience and are actively working in the Health and Fitness industry. 

For the practical assessment students are required to bring a 'body' on their practical assessment date.
